How this works — in plain words
Last updated August 2026. Not a contract with the government.
Who we are
Garrison is not affiliated with the U.S. Government, the Department of Defense, the Office of Personnel Management, or TSP.gov. Figures are 2026 planning estimates — not official advice, not a substitute for myPay, a Personal Financial Counselor, or a fiduciary you chose.
Garrison is an independent planning product at garrison.finance. It is not myPay, not the Thrift Savings Plan, not a bank, and not a law firm. Rank, station, and pay tables come from public 2026 Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), Office of Personnel Management (OPM), and Thrift Savings Plan publications. Those are planning estimates.
Who can see your numbers
Only you can see what you enter. Basic stays in this browser. A signed-in save is tied to your account. We do not sell your data.
If you never sign in, the picture stays in this browser on this device. If you sign in, it is saved to your account so a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) does not wipe it. A spouse, executor, or advisor sees it only if you show them the screen, share a download, or they use the same sign-in. We do not sell data. We do not run ads against it.
Where a signed-in save lives
The website is hosted on Vercel. A signed-in household is stored in a hosted Postgres database (Neon), typically in the eastern United States. Official pay tables live in the product, not in your file. Ask Garrison only runs when you type a question.
When bank linking is on, Garrison uses a read-only aggregator (Plaid). We never see your bank password. You accept a waiver before a link starts. The Thrift Savings Plan and myPay have no public third-party feed; those balances are entered by you from the official site. Linked balances can be a day behind and are not official statements.
Linking a bank, credit, or brokerage account
You may connect Garrison with one or more third-party institutions with whom you have a customer relationship (your bank, credit union, or brokerage). The connection uses Plaid, a read-only aggregator — the same class of partner Yahoo Finance uses to link a portfolio. Before a link starts, the product shows this waiver and requires a checkbox.
By connecting an account, you acknowledge and agree that:
- You are authorizing Plaid — our connectivity partner — to receive the login credentials you enter at your bank, credit union, or brokerage. Garrison never sees your password, username, PIN, or security questions.
- By submitting that information through Plaid, you grant Plaid the right to use it to connect Garrison to that institution, and you grant Garrison the right to receive read-only information (account names, last four digits, and balances) so we can show them on your net-worth journal.
- Garrison is not a bank, credit union, broker-dealer, investment adviser, or fiduciary. Linking does not move money. We cannot transfer, pay, or change your accounts.
- You represent that you have legal authority to link the account — it is yours, or you are an authorized signer.
- Garrison is not responsible for errors in displayed balances, including errors from Plaid or your institution. Balances may lag a day or more, may omit pending items, and are not a substitute for official statements. Confirm numbers against the bank before you rely on them.
- Garrison hereby disclaims liability for the timeliness, accuracy, deletion, non-delivery, or failure to store linked information. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Garrison, its operators, and affiliates from claims, losses, costs, or damages arising from your use of bank linking, inaccurate third-party data, or your violation of your institution’s terms.
- Garrison is not responsible for any interaction between you and your bank, including transactions you enter there.
- You can disconnect at any time by removing the account here. Disconnecting stops future refreshes. It does not close or alter the bank account.
- Plaid’s End User Privacy Policy (plaid.com/legal) governs how Plaid handles credentials. Garrison does not sell linked data. Access tokens stay on the server; the product only stores a Plaid item id, last four, and the last pulled balance.
- The Thrift Savings Plan and myPay have no official third-party feed. Those balances must be typed from the official site. Nothing here is tax, legal, or investment advice.
I have read and agree to the account-linking terms. I understand Garrison is not my bank, never sees my password, and is not liable for third-party data or my bank’s actions.
You may refuse. Refusing does not affect Basic. Premium still lets you type a balance from a statement. Removing a linked account here is the way to revoke Garrison’s refresh of that item; it is not a notice to your bank.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Garrison and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or inaccurate third-party balances, even if advised of the possibility. The product is provided as-is. Your exclusive remedy for dissatisfaction is to stop using it and, if you pay, cancel the subscription. Some states do not allow certain limitations; in those states our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the prior twelve months, or fifty dollars, whichever is greater.
Reports and the account inventory
The monthly brief and the account inventory are planning documents. They can help a spouse, executor, or counselor find accounts. They are not a will, a trust, a power of attorney, or official casualty assistance paperwork. Confirm numbers against statements before you rely on them.
Not advice
Nothing here is tax, legal, or investment advice, and nothing is a recommendation to buy or sell a security. Decisions stay with you, a Personal Financial Counselor, or a fiduciary you chose.
