What $5 a month is actually for

Five dollars a month is $60 a year. Pay once and it is $50. That is about one dinner out — and the tools run all year.

Ask Garrison — already in Basic

An AI assistant on the right side of the picture. Ask about the match, Roth versus Traditional, or whether you are on track. It reads the numbers you already entered. Nothing is sent until you ask. Basic includes it. Paying is for the journal, the banks, and the packet.

Trackers

Each month you write down what you own and what you owe — or pull it from a linked bank. Over time that becomes a line you can see. Past months stay and stay editable. Future months are a projection.

Linked banks, read-only

Premium connects through Plaid the same way Yahoo Finance does. You type the password at the bank, not here. We never see it. Balances can lag a day. You can disconnect any time. The waiver is on the legal page and in the product before you link.

Goals

Pick something real: an emergency fund, a credit card at $0, a house. Put a number on it and a monthly amount. Garrison tells you how long it takes, including interest on debt.

Three briefs at Premium. All six at Pro.

Premium opens the household brief, total compensation, and cash-flow. Pro unlocks the account inventory, net-worth position, retirement outlook, and the downloadable 2–3 page packet.

Two people, one household

Pro is for the dual-military or military-plus-federal house. A second profile, both true paychecks on one page, and a packet you can hand a counselor without starting from a blank sheet.

Why people stay after the trial

It already knows this paycheck
Housing allowance, the Thrift Savings Plan match, a pension you earn by staying — those are not extras here. They are the starting point. Most money apps ask you to pretend you have a regular civilian job. You do not.
Compounding is easier when you can see it
A dollar you put in at 22 is not the same dollar at 42. Premium draws that path out toward age 90, in steps that match your age. You do not need a spreadsheet. You need to see the line go up when you raise the contribution.
A year of Premium is $50. Missing the match is more.
If you put 3% in the Thrift Savings Plan instead of 5%, the government keeps the last slice of free money. On a typical mid-enlisted paycheck that leftover is a few hundred dollars a year — before twenty years of growth. The subscription is smaller than the leak.
It follows you when you move
Basic lives in this browser. Premium, once you sign in, keeps rank, station, goals, and the net worth journal. The next Permanent Change of Station (PCS) is an edit, not a rebuild.
Pro is for the household — and for the meeting
A spouse on active duty, or you as a Federal Civilian next to a service member. Two paychecks, one picture, and a monthly report you can take to a counselor. $7 a month, or $70 for the year.
Your numbers stay yours
Basic never leaves this browser. If you sign in, the save is scoped to your account. We do not sell it. Ask Garrison only runs when you type.

Plain answers

Do I have to be good at money?
No. The pages use everyday words first, and spell out the official names when they show up. You fill in rank, station, and a few numbers. Garrison does the rest.
What happens after 30 days?
If you like Premium or Pro, you stay. If not, you drop back to Basic. Basic is free and keeps the picture — including Ask Garrison.
Will you charge my card during the trial?
You add a card to start. The 30 days are free. You are not billed until the trial ends, and you can leave before then.
Why pay the year up front?
Premium is $5 a month ($60 a year) or $50 once. Pro is $7 a month ($84 a year) or $70 once. Paying once is 17% less, and you are done thinking about it.
Who can see what I type?
Only you. Basic lives in this browser on this device. A signed-in save is tied to your account and is not visible to a spouse (unless you share the screen) or anyone at Garrison browsing around. We do not sell your data.
Is this the government?
No. Garrison is independent. The pay tables come from public 2026 Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), Office of Personnel Management (OPM), and Thrift Savings Plan publications. Planning figures, not official advice.
